August 6, 2010 – An approach to integrate the Solr search engine with the Plone has raised more than a few eyebrows. The double duty of this is the indexing processor for use with the collective indexing and an API search similar to a standard run-of-the-mill portal catalog. Profiles can be applied to set up content indexing in Solr and the back end comes via the Plones site and live search as well.

The people behind the integration is collective.solr 1.orc1and the implementation is nearly complete. Installing the package in a Plone 3.x site will enable the user to index operations as well as search using Solr, both site and live search.

The promises this new package makes are long and impressive. But, will it actually be able to deliver?
