February 10, 2011 – Michigan residents can now access hard-to-find resources by using a new Central Michigan 211 Information Referral. Answering questions regarding area human services now requires less staff time because of the comprehensive taxonomy used to operate the call center.

This great example of taxonomy technology was found in The Argus Press’s article, “Dialing up a new way of helping.” By organizing the database in a way that’s never been done before, it also allowed the state officials to see where the holes in service are and work to plug those holes. The taxonomy was built over several decades of providing community service. This use of taxonomy has added value to their data and ultimately, their service.
