A new online system for the Eugene Police Department records recently went live. This was a huge milestone for the City of Eugene as they worked to change the mainframe-based records system that had been in use since the late 1960s. Partnering with their sister city Springfield, Eugene chose SunGard, a multinational IT software and services company, to take them through this journey with their Records Management System/Computer Aided Dispatch System (RMS/CAD).

The Oregon local paper, Lane Today, brought us this news in their article, “Eugene Police Records System Goes Live Today; Expected to Save over 50% in Costs.” There are many benefits expected from this process, not the least being a difference in operating costs. The new system’s annual operating cost will be less than half of that of the current system.
