Abundance – the word of the year, maybe the decade. That is no different in the world of data. We have computers capable of processing the vast and complex data, and thanks to the clouds, our storage capabilities appear to be endless. But is this a false sense of security? This interesting information came from The Scholarly Kitchen in their article, “Data Detectives: Investigating What is, and What is Not, Measured.”

Businesses are using more data than ever to inform decision making. While the technical challenges may be less daunting with smaller data sets, there remain challenges in interpreting data and in using it to make informed decisions. Perhaps the most daunting challenge is in understanding the limitations.

Access to data is important. It can be achieved by creating strong taxonomies. Proper indexing against a strong standards-based taxonomy increases the findability of data. Access Innovations is one of a very small number of companies able to help its clients generate ANSI/ISO/W3C-compliant taxonomies.
