Digital Locker has been in place for more than a year. By its name alone, you could assume it is all about storage. However, according to the creators, it offers more than just storage. This interesting information came to us from Express Computer in their article, “Unlocking the full potential of the Digital Locker.”

As one of the key initiatives under the Digital India Programme, Digital Locker is aimed at minimizing the usage of physical documents and enable sharing of e-documents across agencies.

With the help of this portal, sharing is done through registered repositories thereby ensuring the authenticity of the documents online. So it is more than storage, it is sharing. But wait, there’s more: the documents that are shared are given validity through a digital e-sign process. These digitally signed documents can be shared with government organizations or other entities. This technology enables the users and ensures authenticity of the e-documents, thereby eliminating usage of fake documents.
