The use of unstructured big data is predicted to grow at an unbelievable rate in the next year. It is expected that by the year 2022, 93 percent of all data being processed will be unstructured. DATAVERSITY brought this interesting information to us in their article, “Intelligent Crowdsourcing: A Big Data Solution.”

Processing unstructured big data is currently one of the most challenging problems for information technology professionals. Structure, while not formally defined, can still be implied. Technology such as data mining, natural language processing, and text analytics provide different methods to find patterns in and interpret information.

Since unstructured data most commonly occurs in electronic documents, the use of a content or document management system that can categorize entire documents is often preferred over data transfer and manipulation from within the documents. There are also several commercial solutions available for analyzing and understanding unstructured data for business applications. There are many benefits to analyzing unstructured data, so don’t write it off as too cumbersome to be worth the time investment.
