A recent acquisition by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) has the potential to transform scientific investigation. The Scholarly Kitchen brought this interesting information to us in their article, “What the Acquisition of Meta Means for Scholarly Publishers.”

No one is really surprised at the acquisition of Meta as data and data science has piqued much interest. By working with the scientific literature, Meta has found a new way to expedite research and to bring added value to the underlying publications.

Meta is still very much a part of the scientific, technical and medical (STM) community, but it has changed the dynamics of the researchers themselves. They will now look to Meta as a new method of discovery and an accelerant of the research process itself. This will not be the end of changes in the digital world for publishers. In fact, it is likely just the beginning.
