Records management can be challenging for anyone, but just imagine what the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) faces on a daily basis. This information came to us from The Business of Federal Technology in their article, “White House says it is keeping deleted presidential tweets.”

The type and format of records have changed with technology and the popularity of social media over the past decade. This is true in the public sector as well as in government. The volume has also increased for the same reasons. When it comes to social media, specifically the current President’s favorite medium, Twitter, the White House plans to save all tweets, including those that have been deleted. The caveat according to communications from the head of the NARA, is that the president is the ultimate arbiter of what is and isn’t a presidential record.
