There is money to be made in and around the Internet of Things (IoT), and some are projecting big numbers. This interesting information came to us from Media Post in their article, “IoT Revenue Projections Pass $1 Trillion.”

IoT is a growing topic of conversation both in and outside of the workplace. It’s a concept that not only has the potential to impact how we live, but also how we work. There are a lot of complexities around it.

Broadband Internet has become more widely available, the cost of connecting is decreasing, more devices are being created with Wi-Fi capabilities and sensors built into them, technology costs are going down, and smartphone utilization is skyrocketing. All of these factors are creating a perfect storm for the IoT.

The latest projections involve the amount of money that IoT will mean to operators of mobile networks. The IoT revenue opportunity is estimated to reach $1.8 trillion by 2026, according to the industry trade group, GSMA.
