The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) launched a pilot program to determine the government’s potential to untangle the bureaucracy of federal grant reporting. Talk about facing down a mountain. Fed Scoop brought this interesting topic to us in their article, “HHS pilot could change the way government reports on grants spending.”

A report was issued on the findings of the program and it advocates for more streamlining in annual federal grant funding, which totals more than $600 million. They recommend using open source data formats to document them.

Pushing for standardization is always a good goal. In this case, the use of standardized data fields and formats for reporting on government spending is part of the recommendation.

Of course, we’re all for standards. Access Innovations is one of a very small number of companies able to help its clients generate ANSI/ISO/W3C-compliant taxonomies.
