I live in Kentucky. You can't look either direction without seeing a billboard for one bourbon brand or another. It is infiltrated into our environment and definitely our economics. We all have our favorites and then there are the illusive brands that many covet and/or steal. But what is the difference between whisky, whiskey, and bourbon? Is there a difference?
We have all worked at organizations at one time or another that touted their mission, vision, and values and expected staff to be able to recite them at any time, on the spot. If you have ever worked at a hospital, you were often threatened with "Joint Commission might ask you in the hallway and you have to know." I have a confession to make. Your content writer is a spelling bee geek. When I was a child, my father would hold spelling bees with my sister and I, and well, I always won. Not to brag, but really to show the benefits of phonetics. My older sister did not go to kindergarten (I have no memory of why), but kindergarten is where phonetics were taught in the 60's. I have found another taxonomy of a not-so-usual subject - band names. This beautifully designed infographic tracks band names in a variety of well-organized categories. The charts track which locations are most frequently cited in band names point heavily toward a bias in the direction of the Eastern half of the United States and aside from a short list of two, Australia is largely neglected.
This interesting and somewhat alternative taxonomy fell on my radar today and I couldn't resist. Humor me. It is Friday, after all.
