Amazon has changed its customer reviews system in the United States. A new machine-learning platform has been developed in-house to surface newer and more helpful reviews. DATAVERSITY brought this news to our attention in their article, “Amazon Is Improving Its Review System With Machine Learning.”
This new system apparently can learn to predict which reviews are likely to be most helpful to customers. The new system will give more weight to newer reviews, reviews from verified Amazon purchasers, and those that customers vote as being more helpful.
It is nice to see them responding to the customer’s needs, especially in light of the recent press surrounding their employee satisfaction situation. Machine learning depends on the right data. What we refer to as big data and machine learning today will simply be integrated into the fabric of computing tomorrow.
