Identity and Access Management (IAM) is the security and business discipline that enables the right individuals to access the right resources at the right times and for the right reasons. This interesting news came to us from Research Information in their article, “Sharing expertise for a successful future.”

Because it addresses the need to ensure appropriate access to resources across increasingly heterogeneous technology environments and to meet increasingly rigorous compliance requirements, it is a critical aspect of academic and professional publishing. The software that drives IAM solutions connects students, academics, and practicing professionals with the information they need in their studies and work.

Unfortunately, IAM can be difficult for content and identity providers to navigate due to its highly technical and multifaceted nature. There was research done in 2015 that indicated an overall lack of confidence and understanding around IAMs. There are some pockets of knowledge and some content providers that have demonstrated a great understanding of the importance of the user experience, so all is not lost.
