The Oxford English Dictionary recently released their list of added words as part of their June update to the more than 150-year old publication. This interesting information came to us from ABC out of Australia in their article, “Budgie smugglers: Australian slang term officially added to Oxford English Dictionary.”
Among the 1,000+ word list were budgie smugglers, Goldilocks economy, hockey mom, and folktronica. The definition of those are as follows:
- Budgie Smugglers: Tight fitting style of male swimming trunks
- Goldilocks economy: An economy that is not too hot or cold, in other words sustains moderate economic growth, and that has low inflation
- Hockey mom: Mothers who take their children to hockey rinks often
- Folktronica: A style of popular music incorporating elements of folk and electronic music
