It is a move that will make personal social media users happy and create angst for the businesses and non-profits that use social media to engage with their customers and constituents. Facebook has announced it is prioritizing content from friends and family. Inquisitor brought this interesting information to us in their article, “Facebook To Become More Social — News Feed To Feature More Content From Friends And Family Than Publisher Accounts.”
For quite a while, the social media giant had appeared to favor online publishers by pushing their content into the users’ News Feeds. Instead, it will now focus on content from actual human connections.
By limiting the amount of content from Pages, a user’s News Feed will now be populated more with posts from friends, family, and acquaintances.
Facebook acknowledged the possibility of content publishers suffering from readership because the content is no longer actively pushed up into the users’ News Feed.
