Data security is always a concern, and in light of the recent Yahoo data breach, it is forefront on everyone’s minds. Data storage security is a key component in the fight against data breaches. But how secure is the recycle bin on your PC? This interesting information was brought to us by Info Security magazine in their article, “The PC Recycle Bin Lurks as a Major Data Breach Source.”
According to a recent study, more than half (53%) of IT professionals confuse “erasing” data with “deleting” data. More than half (51%) of the respondents believe files are permanently gone when they empty the recycle bin on their desktop computers/laptops.
Data retention policies in every organization needs to be reviewed and enforced – or in some cases, implemented. About 30% of organizations do not have written data retention or removal policies at all.
