ResearchGate and Springer Nature recently announced that they have been in discussions about finding solutions to sharing scientific journal articles online, while at the same time protecting intellectual property rights. ResearchGate brought this news to us in their release, “ResearchGate and Springer Nature plan cooperation.”
Scholarly collaboration networks (SCNs) are top of mind these days for publishers and academic societies. Publishers and societies have tried to find common ground and cooperative, mutually beneficial solutions for working with SCNs. The companies are cautiously optimistic that a solution can be found, and invite other publishers and societies to join the talks.
ResearchGate was founded in 2008 by the physicians Dr. Ijad Madisch and Dr. Sören Hofmayer, along with computer specialist Horst Fickenscher. The company’s mission is to connect the world of science and make research open to all.
Springer Nature publishes robust and insightful research, supports the development of new areas of knowledge, and leads the way on open access.
