Wearables might give you thoughts of clothes or jewelry, or even backpacks. However, connected wearable devices are fast becoming as well established products that can help people do a variety of things. It is often used to monitor health functions like physical activity, blood pressure or heart rate. Outside of personal uses, wearable technology is being incorporated into navigation systems and advanced textiles. One of the latest products in this field is designed to help workers avoid serious injuries on the job. ZD Net brought this information to us in their article, “IoT, big data, and wearables combine to boost safety.”
GuardHat has partnered with LexisNexis HPCC Systems to create an Internet of Things (IoT) hardhat that is designed to increase worker safety. They use sensors to continuously transmit data in real time to a safety control center. This allows the system to pinpoint each worker’s location and detect dangerous conditions. Open source platforms such as these are proving beneficial in these field and more.
