Data governance is important to any data management strategy. All organizations need to plan how they use data so that it’s handled consistently, to support business outcomes. This topic came to us from datanami in their article, “COVID-19 Has a Data Governance Problem.”

It’s all about how you handle the data collected. Scientists and government officials have been working to forecast the spread and growth of the COVID-19 virus since the first observed cases were identified. Model predictions that were launched on the number of infected in the United States was curbed by the number of available tests and the limited testing criteria to critical patients. All this data was valuable but it was missing one important element: data governance.

How can we enforce proper data governance standards including data quality for responsible data reporting? How can those in the data community collectively ensure consistent reporting for future global pandemics?
