“Data breach” takes on an entirely new meaning when it comes to the democracy of American elections. The New York Times brought us this news in their article, “Lawmakers Are Warned That Russia Is Meddling to Re-elect Trump.”

Intelligence officials have warned House lawmakers that Russia is interfering in the 2020 campaign with the end goal of getting Donald Trump re-elected. Regardless of what side of the aisle you sit on, this should be alarming.

This isn’t the first time intelligence officials have told lawmakers that Russia’s interference campaign was continuing. However, this briefing included what appeared to be new information: specifically, that Russia intended to interfere with the 2020 Democratic primaries as well as the general election.

Some may not realize this isn’t the first time interference in democracy has taken place. European democracies have been coping with foreign interference for longer than the United States, and the primary threat to European democracies also comes from Russia.
