Machine learning┬áis common across most industries these days. What is new is supervised learning. Analytics Insight brought this interesting information to us in their article, “5 Things Business Leaders Must Know About Machine Learning.”

Supervised learning refers to a class of systems and algorithms that determine a predictive model using data points with known outcomes. The model is learned by training through an appropriate learning algorithm that typically works through some optimization routine to minimize a loss or error function.

Supervised learning is the process of teaching a model by feeding it input data as well as correct output data. This input/output pair is usually referred to as labeled data. Supervised learning is often used to create machine learning models for two types of problems.

Machine learning is the science of getting computers to act without being explicitly programmed. In the past decade, machine learning has given us self-driving cars, practical speech recognition, effective web search, and a vastly improved understanding of the human genome.
