Data scientists are analytical experts who utilize their skills in both technology and social science to find trends and manage data. They use industry knowledge, contextual understanding and skepticism of existing assumptions to uncover solutions to business challenges. This interesting topic came to us from Hospitality Net in their article, “What’s Data Science in Hospitality.”

This new breed of analytical data expert has the technical skills to solve complex problems and the curiosity to explore what problems need to be solved.

Data scientists are fairly new, within the past decade or so. Their newfound fame is a direct reflection on the importance businesses are now putting on big data.

Many data scientists began their careers as statisticians or data analysts. But as big data began to grow and evolve, those roles evolved as well. Data scientists need some background in computer programming so they can devise the models and algorithms necessary to mine the stores of big data.
