The federal government uses automation and better data management to be proactive. They do this with predictive data analytics to provide resources to support state and local entities. This interesting topic came to us from FedTech in their article, “The Widespread Benefits of Federal Predictive Data Analytics.”
Predictive analytics is the use of data, statistical algorithms and machine learning techniques to identify the likelihood of future outcomes based on historical data. The goal is to go beyond knowing what has happened to providing a best assessment of what will happen in the future. This is used across the Federal departments. For example, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is working to improve child welfare outcomes using predictive models. With the gathered data, they can estimate future risk of serious injury or fatality, as well as abuse.
Full collaboration on predictive analytics between the federal government and the rest of the U.S. may still be a work in progress, but the results are proving worth the effort.
