It is all hands on deck when it comes to fighting the coronavirus and developing a vaccine. Technology is a significant part of this journey. This interesting information came to us from News Wise in their article, “Machine learning model for COVID-19 drug discovery is a Gordon Bell finalist.”

A machine learning model developed by a team of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) scientists to aid in COVID-19 drug discovery efforts is a finalist for the Gordon Bell Special Prize for High Performance Computing-Based COVID-19 Research.

Using all of Sierra, the world’s third fastest supercomputer, the scientists produced a more accurate and efficient generative model to enable COVID-19 researchers to produce novel compounds that could possibly treat the disease.

As the second wave of COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the globe, companies are working hard to develop innovative solutions to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Startups are teaming up with clinicians, engineers and government entities to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
