Data science feels like a generic term used by people who really don’t know what it is and assumes it is a group of geeks playing with numbers. However, data science continues to evolve as one of the most promising and in-demand career paths for skilled professionals. This interesting topic came to us from Tech Radar in their article, “Moving from data chaos to data intelligence.”
Results from a recent study found that, on average, data professionals spend 67% of their time searching for and preparing data for analytics. Sadly, the same research also found that only 12% of data workers’ time is being spent on delivering insights.
Today, successful data professionals must advance past the traditional skills of analyzing large amounts of data, data mining and programming skills. In order to uncover useful intelligence for their organizations, data scientists must master the full spectrum of the data science life cycle and possess a level of flexibility and understanding to maximize returns at each phase of the process.
