A hacker claims to have followed through on a threat to release several episodes from an upcoming season of Netflix’s hit series Orange Is The New Black, after a production vendor suffered a breach. This interesting news came to us from The Associated Press in their article, “Hacker Claims Release of Stolen Copies of Netflix Series.”

The hacker, who goes by the name The Dark Overlord, announced the move on Twitter and included a link to an illegal file-sharing service where purportedly 10 episodes from the series’ upcoming fifth season were available for download.

The hacker had been demanding that Netflix pay an unspecified ransom in exchange for not releasing the episodes prematurely online. Netflix had reportedly remained unresponsive to the ransom request.

The fear of data breaches is constant for most organizations. They will be in a better position to respond quickly and successfully because of security threat intelligence. Protection, detection and response are the keys to good security.
