The volume of data continues to grow. At what point is there too much to gain any value? Have we already passed it? DATAVERSITY brought this interesting information to us in their article, “The Strategic Chief Data Officer: Leveraging Data for Customer Value.”

AT&T recently announced a new position of Chief Data Officer (CDO). This is not just new for AT&T, but for the industry as well. This role has been created because of the growing usage and amount of big data in business as well as concerns regarding protection of such data. The CDO could be a powerful role and integral to any successful business.

While executive positions involving data are not new, the rise of the CDO is due, in part, to the fact that companies now have to simultaneously navigate regulatory demands, successfully leverage data and manage enterprise-wide governance. Expertise and full dedication is needed particularly since data is threaded into nearly all facets of today’s businesses.
