Managed Metadata Service Application Deemed A Star

August 20, 2010 – The Managed Metadata Service application was tagged as the most important new service application in SharePoint Server 2010.

In Windows IT Pro’s post, “What You Want to Know About the Managed Metadata Service”, the centralized management of terms (also called metadata or tags) and deployment of content types across site collections, web applications, and even farms was called the backbone of information architecture. The fact that SharePoint 2010 now does these tasks is a win in their book.

Smart software is impressive, but without the addition of the subject matter expert or the professionals who can develop comprehensive, ISO/ANSI/NISO-compliant term lists, their results will be limited and incomplete.
