September 1, 2010 – Sean Martin, CTO of Cambridge Semantics, was recently interviewed on his views of integration.
As reported in ITBusiness Edge’s article, “Integration Critical Component of Semantic Technologies“, his Massachusetts-based company has developed a semantic middleware stack, complete with ESB. Discussed in the interview is the often overlooked, un-managed, and un-integrated spreadsheet data.
Although not often talked about, Martin opened up and said that integration is central to any semantic solution.
“Why the integration angle is still a mystery when reading about semantics is still unclear, especially when applying semantic solutions to the enterprise. Semantics can affect enterprise integration and Cambridge Semantics has a unique way of applying it.”
This sounds promising and more and more the veil is being lifted about how semantics might be applied to more enterprise problems.

Hi Glenn-
Glad you caught the piece! With a lot of the “semantic” focus on NLP systems for data enrichment and quality control, or on “web 3.0” predictions about the future of the net, somehow the value that semantic web technologies could bring to the enterprise has been overlooked. Particularly with data collaboration, integration, and end-user empowerment.
Drop me a line if you get a chance.
best,
Rob
