March 22, 2011 – Despite the fact that the players in the data integration game are not new and in fact, could be considered all-stars, there are some signs that the landscape is changing.
IT Business Edge alerts us to “Two Trends to Watch in the Data Integration Space.” More and more organizations are selecting options that are cost effective and work “good enough”. This means some formerly benched players can actually get in the game. Players who aren’t ETL experts, but developers that can deliver results in a timely manner.
Also, the data warehousing market is evolving in that data integration vendors may be able to compete for projects traditionally opened only to database management system (DBMS) vendors. With the quantity of data being so large, there is a need to understand it, and the market is evolving toward helping to provide context. In the middle of that is metadata management. This will be interesting to watch.
