By 2020, the “digital universe” will be 44 times as large as it was in 2009. It is no secret that data generated and stored by enterprises is growing, but these statistics really bring to light some realities. Ninety percent of data volume generated to date was produced in the last two years. This is not old data archived for generations. We are producing data like rabbits.
Sys-Con Media brought this news to our attention in their article, “Enterprise Search in a Hybrid Cloud Computing Model.” Considering the amount of content generated by the various devices, digital media, social networking and other sources, we shouldn’t be surprised by these statistics. However, you can’t help but wonder what the usefulness is of such vast data. Can you really find what you need in all that?
Enterprise search is a different approach than Google and other search engines. It is designed specifically to maneuver through the murkiness of big data and make your content findable.
