CIA is Investing in Semantic Search

The CIA is embracing semantic technology by investing an undisclosed, but apparently healthy, amount in semantic search technology and a technology that can turn a PC into a wireless network. In-Q-Tel is the CIA’s investment group and they are backing NetBase, developer of semantic search technology, and Connectify, developer of VPN software.

Washington Technology brought this news to our attention in their article, “CIA backs semantic search, wireless tech.” The CIA and other intelligence agencies plan to use NetBase’s technology to streamline how they search for information internally. By integrating it into existing search techniques already used by the intelligence community, a new layer of search capability has been added to access intelligence information.
