During the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) conference in Salt Lake City this week, a World Health Organization (WHO) official urged health care organizations to move forward with the transition to ICD-10 code sets.

Bedirhan Ustun — team coordinator of classification, terminology and standards in the department of health statistics at WHO said delaying ICD-10 implementation could hinder comparative effectiveness studies and the ability to learn from other countries that have made the transition.
