Still looking for that perfect gift for the historian or librarian in your life? How about a mobile scanner? This fun and useful product from Flip runs on four AA batteries and has a 2 GB SD memory card installed. The appearance is deceptive with only a 6.5×10 flatbed scanner, but it runs well and the quality of the images stood up to various forms of testing, according to one writer.

We found this interesting reminder on Tampa Bay Online in their article, “Scanner makes nifty gift for researchers.” I could see lots of benefits of a mobile scanner for anyone who does research. No hunting down a copier or paying to have something scanned and emailed to you. You control exactly what you want scanned and have it immediately. Now, who on my list would like this? Besides me, of course.
