Social media at its very core was designed to make users want to follow people. It is all about making connections. However, with the influx of data coming through social media, there is a trend in social media users where they are no longer “following’ people and organizations in an effort to limit the clutter and chatter that is coming from their social networks. Does this not defeat the point of social media?

This interesting topic was found on Inc. in their article, “Can This Start-up Eliminate Social Media Overload?” There is a new software/service that is attempting to solve this problem. Bottlenose is a dashboard that brings together all the social media accounts in one unified stream. Bottlenose then “reads” all of the messages and interprets their importance. It is like having your own personal assistant.
