The Lake County Genealogical Society now is seeking volunteers to help index the census for Lake County when it is released in April. Once the indexing is complete, users will be able to locate a person of interest among the 132 million names in the census. Once the indexing work is completed, its contents will be available for free for anyone wishing to access it.
This very interesting news was found on northern Ohio’s News-Herald in their article, “Volunteers needed to index 1940 Census.” The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration chose April 2012 as the time for release because it is 72 years after the information was collected, and that was beyond the life expectancy in 1940.
