The Federation of American Hospitals (FAH) has chimed in on the debate over the delay of the ICD-10 implementation, and they believe the one-year delay will be beneficial. The federation also believes that all segments of the healthcare industry should transition to ICD-10 at the same time.

CMIO brought this news to our attention in their article, “Hospital group comments on ICD-10 delay.” The new ICD-10 classification system has five times more billing codes. Medical coding requires specialized expertise and systems tailored to the regulatory requirements in which health care providers, hospitals, and doctors deliver their services. Training staff is a key component of the transition.
