It seems like every day there is another organization, provider, or interested party sharing their opinion on the ICD-10 delay. Today, it is the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) and the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) offering slightly differing opinions on the ICD-10 implementation process.

This familiar topic was brought to our attention by CMIO in their article, “WEDI, MGMA differ on ICD-10 timeline.” MGMA continues to offer its support for extending the compliance date for ICD-10 but believes CMS has not taken the appropriate steps prior to mandating the code set.

Whenever the transition takes place, there will be five times the number of codes as in ICD-9, so this massive undertaking understandably has many concerned.
