Every one of us has heard and quite possibly been guilty of saying, “stupid computer” at one time or another. It might have been standing in line at the DMV arguing with someone who has zero personality, or sitting in the privacy of our own living room fighting our laptop’s repetitive urge to lock up, always at the most inopportune time. We know but often have to be reminded that computers are really only as smart as the programmer and user combined.
This topic and discussion was inspired by a blog post from the American Civil Liberties Union titled, “Will We Mold Ourselves To Match Our Data?” Because computers cannot understand natural language, they are the smartest and stupidest at the same time. Read the complete post; it is very interesting and worth your time.
