The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently announced the final decision on a rule that will delay the deadline for healthcare providers to implement the ICD-10 medical coding system by one year. We have been reporting on this project and talking about its challenges and benefits for quite some time. Most people thought this decision was already made, so few are surprised by this announcement.
PC Advisor brought this interesting information to our attention in their article, “Feds delay ICD-10 medical coding deadline for one year.” The new ICD-10 coding classification system will have five times the number of codes to use for billing reimbursement than the current ICD-9 does. Access Innovations’ M.A.I. machine-assisted indexing system and specialists in complex coding, tagging, and indexing can minimize the risk of coding errors with proper training and quality assurance. Many widely used tagging systems lack a user-friendly interface and may not implement a rigorous ANSI-compliant coding subsystem. Access Innovations’ solutions are ANSI-compliant and implement state-of-the-art technology to speed tagging and reduce errors.
