Did you celebrate? October 18, 2012 was World Standards Day 2012. A celebration was held in Washington, DC. ANSI and NIST co-chaired the  U.S. celebration, which included an exhibition, reception, and dinner.

The celebration focused on a Standards Increase Efficiency theme and was attended by nearly 300 members of the standards and conformity assessment community.

Thomas Net brought this news to our attention in their article, “U.S. Standards Community celebrates World Standards Day 2012,” and I confess, it got past me at the time. Maybe a belated card is in order?

This event is celebrated each year to pay tribute to the thousands of volunteers around the world who participate in standardization activities and helps to raise awareness of the role that standards play in addressing national and global priorities.
