The ICD-9-CM Coordination and Maintenance Committee, soon to be called the ICD-10-CM Coordination and Maintenance Committee, is holding a meeting for coders and others where they will update them on their recent activities. The meeting is scheduled for March 5, 2013 and will also be available via webcast.

We found this information on EHR Intelligence in their article, “CMS presents ICD-10 webcast to update, educate providers.” This event addresses some of the challenges and questions healthcare providers have regarding medical coding preparation in the new world of ICD-10.

The new coding classification system will have five times the number of codes to use for billing reimbursement than the current ICD-9 does. This is a major increase that requires some knowledge. Access Innovations’ M.A.I. machine-assisted indexing system and specialists in complex coding, tagging, and indexing can minimize the risk of coding errors with proper training and quality assurance. Many widely used tagging systems lack a user-friendly interface and may not implement a rigorous ANSI-compliant coding subsystem. Access Innovations’ solutions are ANSI-compliant and implement state-of-the-art technology to speed tagging and reduce errors.
