The Size of the Data is the Challenge

Federal agencies manage on average 209 million records, or approximately 8.4 billion records for the entire federal government. This came from a MeriTalk article, “New Year’s Resolutions?.” That puts a whole different perspective on “big data”.

The Presidential Directive on Managing Government Records requires agencies to transition to electronic recordkeeping for all permanent records by 2019. This is a huge challenge for all involved.

Comprehensive search will be critically important to ensure findability. Proper indexing against a strong standards-based taxonomy increases the findability of data. Access Innovations is one of a very small number of companies able to help its clients generate ANSI/ISO/W3C-compliant taxonomies.
