The Pistoia Alliance is a global, not-for-profit alliance of life science organizations that work together to lower barriers to innovation in research and development (R&D). They recently announced the start of a new Ontologies Mapping project. This interesting news came to us from PRWeb in their article, “Pistoia Alliance Announces Start of Ontologies Mapping Project.”
The Ontologies Mapping project has been set up to create better tools and establish best practices. Ontologies, and controlled vocabularies in general, are becoming increasingly important in R&D data management as researchers develop standardized terms to improve their ability to exploit large amounts of complex data in support of life sciences research.
Of course we already know that ontologies and other controlled vocabularies help ensure consistency and standardization. Access Innovations is one of a very small number of companies able to help its clients generate ANSI/ISO/W3C-compliant taxonomies to make their information findable.
