Semantics makes a practical tool for analyzing and filtering the massive quantities of big data. The capability of semantics to deal with a wide variety of data types and apply reasoning techniques is what makes it special.
Learn how to turn big data into smart data at the Smart Data Conference in San Jose, CA on August 18-20, 2015. Industry leaders will explain how semantic technologies work, demonstrate practical applications in industries like finance and healthcare, and describe how semantics can be integrated with modern data platforms, including NoSQL.
One particular workshop is titled, “Evolving Data Integration Using Semantic Technologies: A NoETL Approach” and it promises to be interesting. The presenters will discuss how relational databases can be virtually integrated without data centralization and ETL using the Semantic Web standards, and how semantics can enrich your data in order to improve search. The “interesting” (at least to me) is that the case studies will be from the healthcare industry, which is a hotbed for data integration right now.
