There have been some concerns in the Australian government information-handling in the transition to a digital records management system. This interesting topic was brought to us by Lexology in their article, “Records management refresher: Make sure you’re not a paper dinosaur or a digital disaster.”
The concerns aren’t limited to just them however. It is typical at the end of a year to clean out offices, desks and computer filing systems before taking a break and starting fresh. Anyone doing any clean-up will need to be more careful than most, especially in the digital age.
Most organizations have a records retention policy (or should have) and it is important to refer to that before discarding what could be very valuable information.
The Australian Government is not the only one trying to reduce its paper-based records. It has never been more important to understand the new digital records management requirements.
