Security is always an issue and the parameters change daily. The latest concern and risk involves ransomware. Int his new and scary scenario, hackers often destroy corporate data or encryp it for ransom instead of merely stealing it. Fortune magazine brought this topic to us in their article, “A Top Cybersecurity Firm Says Ransomware Attacks Are Getting Worse.”
Ransomware has afflicted hundreds of companies in addition to consumers. The most recent high profile case was a California hospital who in the end paid to have their highly sensitive patient data returned to them. There are many more cases but many choose not to go public once the data has been returned.
Most coompanies concentrate on the attacks coming from outside and ignore the risks posed by people inside the organization. Employees clicking on email attachments they believe are from trusted sources is the number one threat for organizations.
