The enterprise information management (EIM) industry is full of professional associations, yet there are voids that remain. Education is one and advanced networking would be another. These gaps make networking with knowledgeable peers even more important. Tech Target brought this interesting information to our attention in their article, “Information management industry faces identity crisis.

Associations are supposed to help industries fill these voids, but it often feels like belonging to an industry association is not a necessity and certainly one that doesn’t meet the requirements when it comes budget time. The information profession is trying to define its identity and professionals need a place to belong and grow.

Despite the existence of the Information Governance Initiative (IGI), the Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM) and ARMA International, a new group was founded recently. The Information Coalition (IC) was founded to focus on information governance, rather than management of enterprise information.
