Industry reports indicate that publishers’ revenues were down in January 2016 as compared to January 2015. The Association of American Publishers (AAP) brought this interesting information to us in their release, “Publishers Sales Down at the Start of 2016, eBooks Decline.”

There were double-digit declines in childrens/YA books and adult books, paperback books grew slightly, and religious presses actually had modest gains. However, e-books took the biggest hit along with hardcover books. The statistics are based on publisher net revenue, which is tracked monthly by AAP and includes sales data from more than 1,200 publishers.

More and more organizations are shifting to digital publications, which is only part of the picture. Digital has its own issues and concerns. The important factor of digital data is consistency, and what provides consistency? Standards. Of course we are all about standards. Access Innovations is one of a very small number of companies able to help its clients generate ANSI/ISO/W3C-compliant taxonomies.
