Access Innovations, Inc., recently was engaged by the American Society for Clinical Oncology® (ASCO), the world’s leading professional organization representing physicians who care for people with cancer, for thesaurus work, and is pleased to announce the completion of phase one of the project.
ASCO currently publishes three journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, with online articles dating back to 1989. ASCO contracted with Access Innovations to build a thesaurus of cancer terms to help improve the accuracy and relevancy of its online search results, particularly as the organization prepares to launch two new online-only journals.
In addition to the 400 term subject thesaurus, phase one included a 500 term thesaurus delineating the society’s internal structure, as well as a series of authority files covering drug names, institutional entities, and geographical locations. ASCO will use these resources to streamline their content and improve the usability of their content.
“Access Innovations is glad to offer our services to such an important research outlet,” says Access Innovations president Marjorie M.K. Hlava. “Using our Thesaurus Master software to build these thesauri, we are able to help immensely with term disambiguation.”
Access Innovations looks forward to the next steps in this project with ASCO. ASCO® is a registered trademark of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. ® Used with permission.
